19th Century Flemish Louis XIV Secretary ~ Bookcase with Embossed Brass combines the talents of a master furniture crafter with the artistry of a metal sculptor! Fashioned with a classical architecture that includes bold crown molding, turned columns that support the upper tier and serve as legs below, it commands a timeless presence. Across the crown above and the drawer facade below appears an intricate Renaissance-inspired, horizontally-oriented embossing that depicts peacocks facing a anthropomorphic lion's head, all surrounded by elaborate floral and foliate forms. On the drawer, the lion holds the brass pull in his mouth. Each of the upper cabinet doors is dominated by lavish stylized naturalistic forms, also of the Renaissance influence. Tailored molded detail appears throughout the design, which is just as functional as it is visually appealing, with plenty of convenient storage and a generous working surface. Ideal for cozy rooms or grand rooms with a masculine flair!
