Early 19th Century French Empire Period Marble Top Console ~ Pier Table is an amazing example of the style that launched a revolution felt around the Western World. Highly talented artisans used exotic imported mahogany from the Americas to produce pieces that literally last for centuries. Named after the First Empire established by Napoleon Bonaparte, the style blended ageless motifs with classical architecture in a new and unique way. The casework is almost square in proportion, with an apron including a full width drawer at the top, supported by rounded, ebonized columns in front adorned with cast bronze capitals and bases. The back legs are incorporated into the frame and house a mirror that helped illuminate objects placed on display on the lower shelf which is trimmed in gold quarter round molding, then fitted with lions' paw feet. Above the columns flanking the drawer are two star emblems, with bronze pulls and more gold trim rounding out the design. The perfect finishing touch? Luxurious Carrara marble for a carefree, elegant surface that you can enjoy for decade after decade!
