19th Century French Louis XVI Wall Clock ~ Cartel was sculpted from solid old-growth quarter-sawn oak to create a work of art for your wall that was also originally designed to provide the time. Hand-crafted by J. Touffier out of Savoy, the casework features a flaming urn on top above a tier of Greek coin around an urn design, with flowers cascading down to the main body of the work. The main body is centered with a gilded dial face fitted with hand-painted with porcelain numerals surrounded by banded wheat, then a garland of bell flowers, which in turn are flanked by acanthus fronds and florals. Below appears symbols representing music and cartography, all in glorious full relief worthy of the best sculptors of France during the Beaux Artes Period!
Circa 1890s
Measures 34.5H x 16W x 5D
