Set of Seven 19th Century Dutch Transferware Plates by P. Regout of Maastricht features charming images of rural life derived from line etchings in a technique that has remained popular for many centuries.  The transferware process was developed to increase productivity in the process of porcelain manufacturing, and allowed ease in duplication as well as a more complex imaging on a scale that was more available to a wider audience.  This set displays six distinct images, with each surrounded by an embossed style rim.  The subjects include the fruit harvest, a visit to the florist, a successful fishing trip, preparing for a trip by boat to market, a roadside rest stop, and the wheat harvest.  Each is stamped on the back with the maker's mark and pattern, which is not surprisingly "Rustic", as well as the proud exclamation of being established in 1836.  There are also telltale marks from the tripods upon which each plate was placed in the kiln for firing.  A great set for a decorative vignette!
