Pair 19th Century Country French Louis XVI Whitewashed Bookcases are an amazing find, and perfect for creating symmetry in your favorite room! Beautifully carved from crown to apron, each features an intriguing and unique wire mesh instead of glass, which makes the doors lighter and adds a little bit of Country French charm. Each features a boldly gadrooned crown overlooking the casework, which is dominated by the two full length doors, each fitted on the top two thirds with the aforementioned wire mesh, framed by two tiers of hand-carved molding with subtle acanthus flourishes on the scrolls at the top. The mesh allows one to see the interior, which comes with two full width shelves each on fully adjustable mounts. Below the mesh each door has an exquisitely sculpted panel depicting baskets bursting with flowers and foliage in wonderful relief, surrounded by the same two-tiered molded framework as above. Both doors are flanked by rounded cornerposts carved from the crown to the feet with laurel bundles finished with acanthus flourishes at the base. The apron between is two tiered, with olive sprays above and below, which is set on a graceful contour and centered with an oval medallion carved with florets.
Truly remarkable to find as a pair!
