SaleEarly 19th Century Dutch Bookcase ~ China Cabinet was designed to command the room, plus house and display all a family's cherished keepsakes or books, with copious storage in the stepped-out cabinet below. The design, although almost two feet in total depth, reduces the traffic impact in the room with mitered corners, a feature that continues in the recessed upper tier for continuity. The corners are even outfitted with molded recessed panels to match the cabinet doors in the front as well as the upper and lower side panels. Bold molding on the base, a molding tier separating the top and bottom sections, and a magnificent arched crown with projecting corners cut at 45 degrees off the facade for visual intrigue, all combine to define the cabinetry as one produced by master artisans. The two upper doors are glazed with six panes each, with the tops of each pane matching the curvature of the crown above. Outboard brass barrel hinges above and below ensure all doors open wide for easy access, accented by the curvaceous brass key guards. The upper tier also has a stepped shelf pattern so that one can emphasize a particular book or keepsake at the center. Note the double pegged mortise & tenon joints used throughout the work, ensuring that this instant family heirloom piece will bring smiles for generations to come!
