19th Century Grand Napoleon III Period Ebonized Triple Bookcase is the perfect choice to make a bold statement in any room! Only a very affluent household could afford both the home suitable for such a piece, the education to appreciate the books it could house, and the cost of creating such a masterwork. Soaring over ten feet in height with its centered arched crown, it features spacious glazed display above the three capacious cabinets below. Ebonizing became popular after it was developed in response to the finish called Japanning that was popular in Europe during the era. The hand-sculpted heraldic crest centered on the crown sports the initials of the family who commissioned the piece, and the classic Corinthian capitals that appear above the tapered and fluted columns that frame the three glazed doors above only add to the classic, timeless look. In contrast the clean, uncluttered lines of the step-front base below feature tailored molding and subtle acanthus rosettes as the only embellishment. The three doors and three drawers provide copious storage in style!
