19th Century Grand French Renaissance Walnut Bookcase is a study in excellence of materials, design, and craftsmanship! Rendered from sumptuous select French walnut, it features a rectilinear, neoclassical architecture that has been combined with classical appointments such as scrolled corbels and Greek coin motifs, as well as Doric capitals and fluted pilasters. However, the Renaissance design influence is also expressed in the center carving under the bumped-up crown molding, the carvings under the cornerpost fluting, across the drawer tier and finally the amazingly complex carved detail of the cabinet doors below, centered with full relief lions' heads. Even the sides have received the sculptor's attentions with rosettes, demilune shells, and half-column style back cornerposts that mirror the design of the cornerposts in front. The top tier features glazed doors for display, while the bottom tier is for discreet storage. One would have to spend a bit of time discovering all the remaining details that have been lavished on this work of the cabinetmaker's art. Suffice to say, your books, collection, or family mementos will be well served in this spectacular casework, with copious storage as an added convenience.
