19th Century French Renaissance Two-Tiered Bookcase ~ Bibliotheque is an impressive example of the refined Renaissance style, sometimes referred to as Henri II, with architecture that vaults to over 9 feet tall yet with the rounded sides and shallow depth results in a minimal impact on your floor plan and traffic flow! Hand-crafted from select, old-growth oak, the design includes a triple arched crown centered on an elaborate shield crest with family initials in an anagram. Multiple tiers of crown molding immediately below includes rectangular projections that appear over pyramidal plinth blocks atop intricately tapered, fluted and carved columns which serve to separate the pair of finely framed glazed upper doors with the side embellishment which includes candle shelves and abundant foliate flourishes. The upper tier sets on the lower tier which has the rounded sides which sport rounded drawers working with the single center drawer, all fitted with cast brass pendant pulls, and separated by lions' heads. The carving on all four lower cabinet doors is remarkably artistic, with relief carvings adorning the entire panels, all framed with carved molding detail. Pilasters with crests and half-round scepters appear under each of the lions' heads, leading the eye down to the multi-tiered, substantial base. Amazing storage below, and wonderful display above all executed in an impressive Old World expression of the rebirth of man and his relationship with God and all his earthly blessings ~ this piece has it all!
