19th Century French Henri II Walnut Bookcase will command a stately presence in your room, indeed! Crafted from select walnut, it features architecture inspired by the ancient Greeks and Romans, yet with a particular French flair. Placed on the top is a centered, demilune crown carved with an heraldic crest with olive branches. The crown is connected to the cornerposts fitted with turned finials via a spindle rail gallery that wraps around the sides all the way to the back of the piece. Below the crown is a bonnet carved with a colonnade adorned with fletching and pendant finials, with carved corbels on the cornerposts which are positioned above the tapered, turned and fluted columns that are topped with Doric capitals and that extend all the way to the casework below that houses the full width drawer. Two cabinet doors are fitted with beveled glass for three-quarters of their length, and a framed diamond-shaped panel at the bottom of each door carved in beautiful full relief with an urn bursting with a floral bouquet. Bold molding appears throughout the design, especially on the drawer tier and baseboard below, fitted with turned feet. An excellent display venue for your prized collection, library or family heirlooms!
