18th Century French Country Louis XIV Open Whitewashed Bookcase ~ Bibliotheque is a stunning example of the rural artisans mastery of cabinetmaking! Crafted from dense, old-growth oak using time-honored traditional methods like pegged mortise & tenon joinery, it was constructed to literally last for centuries. The bold multi-tiered crown presides over a lavishly scrolled bonnet centered with a carved crown motif, which in turn presides over the opening that provides a framework for three spacious surfaces including two fully adjustable shelves. The bottom "shelf" is in reality a trunk lid that opens to reveal storage behind the substantial apron below distinguished by three intricately carved raised & recessed panels separated by rosettes. The architecture is otherwise rectilinear, including the sides enhanced by raised panels, two of which are scrolled for a magnificent presence no matter the angle of view. An extraordinary choice for the true connoisseur!
