Pair 19th Century Brass & Horn Trophies were designed to be wonderfully decorative items for the masculine decor during the 19th century. Choice horn specimens were collected, polished then mounted, and in this case richly embellished with crowns, collars and even special tips. The stands were custom designed for each trophy, in this case featuring paw feet on a square base with scrollwork embellishment adorning the central shaft. Originally popular with those that raised cattle, they became status symbols and popular across a wide spectrum of enthusiastic collectors who used them to adorn libraries, studies and offices. This particular pair is also a bit larger than most, intended for a grander space, such as a fireplace mantel, large bookcase, or even atop a spacious desk.
