Antique Renaissance Hall Bench is a wonderful example of the genre, produced on a relatively diminutive scale making it easy to accommodate niches or cozy spaces. Hand-crafted from solid oak to last for generations, it features timeless carved detail that starts with the seatback crown depicting a crouching lion flanked by scrolled foliate designs. The vertical panels of the seatback are separated by carved supports, with armrests crafted like corbels on each side, lavished on the outside with a scroll and large acanthus flourish. The seat hinges up to reveal surprising storage as an added convenience. Five panels on the trunk section of the piece are adorned with large rosettes, with an apron on the front and side carved to complement the seatback crown above. A cushion or pillow can be easily added to enhance comfort.
