19th Century Swedish Neoclassical Painted Bench ~ Trundle Bed is an amazing approach to practicality with style!  The neoclassical influence in the design is readily apparent, with a rectilinear casework supported by six turned legs and turned spindles above the casework in a fence arrangement around three sides, producing an airy effect making it great for between the breakfast table and a picture window.  Ever the pragmatic designers, the clever Swedes made an open compartment fronted by the apron itself that pulls out to reveal storage under the seat, or if young overnight guests need accommodation, the seat itself lifts right off, and a small mattress up to 61" long by 30" deep can provide sleeping space for a youngster.  The two toned painted finish has acquired a lovely patina over the decades, with a charcoal gray seat and contrasting antique white framework, further adding to its light and airy feel.  Charming yet functional!
