19th Century Dutch Colonial Trunk was hand-crafted from seasoned, old-growth white oak to last for centuries! A neoclassical architecture was employed, including Doric capitals atop the fluted corner columns. Fluted pilasters alternate across the main facade, framing four carved panels depicting fleurs de lys and two family crests. A date has been commemorated on the base of 1580, obviously significant to the family that commissioned the piece. The top opens to reveal cavernous storage via forged iron strap hinges. Originally intended to perform double duty as storage and seating, such examples are now revered as perfect for the foot of the bed, or for use as coffee tables, providing a timeless Old World look, plenty of surface and surprising storage in the bargain! Painstakingly stripped using our proprietary, non-toxic process that retains the natural beauty and patina of the wood.
