Antique Wicker Chair is a delightful example of South Pacific craftsmanship that became popular in Europe during the 19th century, and has remained popular to this day. Derived from the palm, wicker is strong yet flexible enough to "weave" into the elaborate shapes that are demonstrated with this example. The oversized seat back and wraparound design built around a circular seat is a trademark look for this type, as is the looping embellishment that pervades the design. The tufted round cushion is in remarkably good condition and adds great comfort to the piece, with an intriguing hourglass seat support surrounded by four cornerposts in a display of ingenious engineering.
