19th Century French Louis XV Fruitwood Armchair ~ Fauteuil with Needlepoint Tapestry is a remarkable example of expert craftsmanship melded with extraordinary artistry!  Utilizing selected fruitwood, the craftsmen sculpted naturalistic and sinuous curvatures into what we call today "French scrolls" for the armrests, armrest supports, apron and even the cabriole legs.  Then, the sculptor lavished the entire framework with stylized shell, and foliate motifs, including a prominent scallop centered on the front apron.  Acanthus flourishes emanate upwards from the feet.  The seatback and seat are both generously sized for comfort, then upholstered in lavishly fabricated needlepoint tapestry in a rich, lush floral and foliate pattern that remains as colorful today as it did when made, indicating an extraordinary degree of care taken with this beautiful armchair over the last century!
