19th Century French Louis XIV Walnut Armchair with Needlepoint Tapestry is a remarkable example of sculpture that also happens to be a comfortable chair! Hand-carved from select French blonde walnut, it features the boldly artistic stylings that are a hallmark of the Louis XIV genre, from the elegantly arched seatback carved with grapes, acanthus plumes and shells, with carvings extending around the entire perimeter of the seatback and even on the uprights joining it to the seat frame below. The gracefully formed armrests are padded, an also carved with classic embellishment. The apron is a work of art unto itself with more of the same theme on all three sides including the legs in front. All four legs are subtly scrolled and tipped with escargots. The upholstery is a distinctly separate work of art unto itself with the seat back, seat and armrest pads all exhibiting an incredibly skilled and artistic rendering of floral and foliate designs that perfectly meld with the framework to create a showcase piece that will draw the admiration of all who enter the room!
